Tesla PPF in North Jersey: Protect Your Tesla From Rock Chips & Road Damage

If you just bought a Tesla, one of the first things you start thinking about is how to keep it looking new. After driving around North Jersey for a while, you quickly realize how much road debris, gravel, construction, and highway driving can beat up the front end of a vehicle.

That’s where Paint Protection Film, or PPF, comes in.

We install PPF on Teslas here at Route 46 Window Tint in South Hackensack, NJ, and it’s one of the better ways to protect the factory paint from the kind of everyday damage that’s difficult to avoid on our roads.

What Does PPF Actually Do?

PPF is a clear protective film that goes directly over the painted surface of your vehicle. Think of it as an extra layer between your paint and whatever the road throws at you.

The areas that usually take the most abuse are the front bumper, hood, front fenders, and mirrors. Those are the areas we see get hit with rock chips and road debris the most.

A good PPF installation can help prevent those impacts from reaching the original paint.

And once you have a rock chip in the factory paint, there really isn’t a way to undo it without repairing the paint. That’s why a lot of Tesla owners choose to protect the vehicle before the damage happens.

Is PPF Worth It on a Tesla?

That really depends on the vehicle and how you use it.

If you drive your Tesla every day, spend a lot of time on the highway, or plan on keeping it for several years, PPF can make a lot of sense.

We see plenty of vehicles come through the shop with rock chips and other road damage that could have been prevented with PPF. Newer vehicles can be especially worth protecting because once the original factory finish is damaged, you can’t simply replace it.

For someone who just wants some added protection without doing the entire vehicle, a front-end package can be a great option. If you want to protect the vehicle as much as possible and keep the factory finish looking good for years, full-body PPF is another option.

Clear PPF or Matte PPF?

PPF doesn’t have to be completely invisible.

Clear PPF is the traditional choice if you want to maintain the original appearance of the Tesla. But matte and stealth PPF have become very popular because they completely change the look of the vehicle while still providing paint protection.

We recently completed a Tesla Model Y with a full matte/stealth PPF installation. The film gave the vehicle a clean satin/matte appearance while protecting the original paint underneath.

It’s a good option for someone who wants their Tesla to look different without going through a permanent paint change.

Why We Recommend Having PPF Installed Professionally

PPF installation is very different from putting on a sticker or vinyl graphic. The film needs to be properly positioned, stretched, installed, and finished around the edges and contours of the vehicle.

Our shop in South Hackensack is set up specifically for automotive film installations, which gives us a controlled environment to work in. Proper preparation and installation make a big difference in how the finished film looks.
